چکیده

Deceptivity and epistasis both contribute to make fitness functions hard to optimize for a genetic algorithm. In this note we examine the relation between these concepts, with particular emphasis on their mutual reinforcement.

Epistasis and its contribution to genetic variance components.

We present a new parameterization of physiological epistasis that allows the measurement of epistasis separate from its effects on the interaction (epistatic) genetic variance component. Epistasis is the deviation of two-locus genotypic values from the sum of the contributing single-locus genotypic values. This parameterization leads to statistical tests for epistasis given estimates of two-loc...

New Entropy-Based Measures of Gene Significance and Epistasis

A new framework to formulate and quantify the epistasis of a problem is proposed. It is based on Shannon’s information theory. With the framework, we suggest three epistasis-related measures: gene significance, gene epistasis, and problem epistasis. The measures are believed to be helpful to investigate both the individual epistasis of a gene group and the overall epistasis that a problem has. ...

A generation mean analysis was conducted to study genetic of yield and yield related traits of bread wheat in drought stress condition. In this research F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 generations were developed created using Kavir and Roushan as parents. The generations and parents were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with three replications and the traits including yield, flag leaf area, ...

High-order epistasis shapes evolutionary trajectories

High-order epistasis-where the effect of a mutation is determined by interactions with two or more other mutations-makes small, but detectable, contributions to genotype-fitness maps. While epistasis between pairs of mutations is known to be an important determinant of evolutionary trajectories, the evolutionary consequences of high-order epistasis remain poorly understood. To determine the eff...

The causes of epistasis.

Since Bateson's discovery that genes can suppress the phenotypic effects of other genes, gene interactions-called epistasis-have been the topic of a vast research effort. Systems and developmental biologists study epistasis to understand the genotype-phenotype map, whereas evolutionary biologists recognize the fundamental importance of epistasis for evolution. Depending on its form, epistasis m...
